Figures & Landscapes

Artist's Reception Sunday September 23, 2-5 PM, Upper Gallery
Exhibition September 23-November 4, 2007

Viewed as a group, the sixteen paintings on display in the Upper Gallery of the Museum, “Raymond Smith, Figures and Landscapes” from Sept. 23 – Nov. 4, do seem to make a statement about modern life in an urban setting, capturing Hobokenites at play, at rest, or quietly sharing a contemplative moment. Smith will admit that he’s drawn more to people than to buildings, and that he seeks to capture expressions of human warmth and intimacy, whether it's between a mother and child on a playground or between the artist and his subject. But he's happy to let his paintings tell their own stories and allow viewers to draw their own conclusions.
